State recognizes steel plant in Frenchtown
Spartan Steel Coating in Frenchtown Township recently was recognized by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality for maintaining a state Clean Corporate Citizen designation for the past five years. The company’s participation in the program “clearly demonstrates that focusing on environmental management and pollution prevention is a fundamental part of smart business strategy,” state officials said. “By making continual improvements that optimize environmental performance, facilities are both cutting costs and contributing to health communities.” The state said it was sending a certificate to mark the achievement and foregoing an awards ceremony, as has been done in the past, “due to budget constraints” and the pending departmental reorganization.
