MCIDC was created by community leaders representing business, industry and local governments.

First staff member was hired with support from community partners - Detroit Edison Company, Monroe Bank & Trust, Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, Monroe County Community College, Monroe County Planning Department, Michigan Gas Utilities, and area governmental units. Staff person was housed in office space provided by the Port of Monroe.

First business "incubator" was established. It is situated in a building owned by Michigan Gas Utilities, which is leased to Pump Engineering, Inc. following its renovation. MCIDC assisted Village of Dundee in beginning work on industrial park.

New employment opportunities were created by Ford Motor Company at facilities in Monroe and Milan. North Star Steel incorporates multi-million dollar infusion of technology at its Monroe facility. Dana Corporation expanded its research and development center in Whiteford Township.

Bedford Industrial Park Center was certified by the State of Michigan. Delta USA constructed manufacturing facility in the City of Monroe.

Massive new Meijer warehousing and distribution center spanned the boundary between Frenchtown and Berlin Townships.

Ford Motor Company invested more than $42 million in equipment at the Monroe plant; 200 new jobs are created. The first company recruited by the MCIDC at its inception - National Galvanizing - expanded its plant in Monroe.

Dundee Industrial Park was chosen for new plant development by Diamond Electric Manufacturing. The Genesis Centre for Entrepreneurial Development opened as an incubator for fledgling businesses.

The Carleton plant of Guardian Industries integrated more than $16 million in state-of-the-art technology in its glass tempering processes. The Robert Bosch Corporation built an automotive research and development center in Ash Township. Cooperative efforts by state and local governments, working in tandem with economic development agencies, result in purchase and revitalization of a large industrial site in Summerfield Township.

A multi-million dollar addition to Holnam Inc's corporate headquarters in Dundee creates 75 new jobs. Facilities were expanded at the Monroe plants of both National Galvanizing and Monroe Welding.

The MCIDC marked its 10th anniversary. Bay Corrugated Container enlarged its Monroe headquarters. Ford Motor Company re-tooled its Monroe plant. In Bedford Township, the Michelin Company expanded.

To evaluate the ecological impact of local manufacturing, an environmental fund was developed by the MCIDC and the Michigan Department of Commerce.

New plants in Monroe County included Tailor Welded Blanks in Newport and the Spiratex Company in Frenchtown Township. A new industrial area was developed in Bedford Township and named Banner Park. The MCIDC was awarded the first-time grant from the Michigan Small Business Development Network (SBDN) to assist and counsel businesses.

Many area enterprises expanded, including North Start Steel, Form-Tech Steel, Tailor Welded Blanks, Clean-Tech Inc., MTS Seating, Young's Inc., and Bay Corrugated Container.

More than 900 new jobs were created by new-to-the-area companies.

Spartan Steel built a new cooling facility in Frenchtown Township.

An international headquarters for Midway Products was built off Albain Road in Monroe Township.

Cabela's reached into the heartland of the Midwest, building a $65 million superstore in Dundee. The world headquarters of La-Z-Boy Incorporated expanded. Guardian Industries developed a new R&D center.

New companies and veteran manufacturers invested $155 million in Monroe County.

One result of the terrorist attacks on September 11th was an even more challenging economic climate across the U.S. Cooperative partnerships became more important than ever.

Home Depot built a major distribution facility in the industrial park in Frenchtown Township. Through the MCIDC, the Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center began to off a full range of support services to emerging small businesses.

The two largest new manufacturing projects anywhere in the State of Michigan happened in Monroe County - Global Engine Manufacturing Alliance in Dundee Township and Plastech Engineering in Frenchtown Township. The Monroe Publishing Company invested heavily in its downtown Monroe facility.

More than 400 new jobs were created and nearly 1,200 existing jobs were retained through the investment of over $375 million by area industries.

Computer Works, located in Monroe, received a regional award for the Best Small Business of the Year.

The MCIDC joined with the Monroe County Economic Development Corporation to build local commercial development in a program called Business FIRST.

MCIDC celebrated its silver anniversary - 25 years of collaboration, shared problem-solving, and creative solutions. A quarter century of progress!

MCIDC partnered with Automation Alley, a technology business association that brings together businesses, educators and government to help entrepreneurs. With the announcement of Midwest Finishing Products closing, the MCIDC collaborated with entrepreneurs, the bank, and Whiteford Township to re-open a new company, Midwest II, at the site doing similar work.

Ventower Industries located their new facility at the Port of Monroe. The Fiat motor project arrived in the Village of Dundee, and the Meijer Warehouse expanded in Berlin Township. DTE announced it will invest $600 million in the Monroe Power Plant and $62.5 million at Fermi 2.

Monroe County attracted more than $200,000,000 in new industrial investments with the creation of over 200 new employment opportunities. Along with the Small Business & Technology Development Center, the MCIDC offers the "FastTrac" educational system designed for new businesses, growing businesses and new technology based businesses.

Over the life of the organization we have documented the creation of 13,190 new jobs and investment of $3,710,920,423.00.
